About Me

Hi! That's me.

My name is Eryka. I'm kind of goofy, often silly, very dedicated, overly organized at work yet oddly messy at home. I love to cook, I'm addicted to coffee, passionate about fitness, and head-over-heals-in-love with my husband.

I've blogged since 2006 under various blog names. Historically my blog has been a space for just me. It's been a place where my fitness journey has been recorded and where I rambled about about life with an audience of friends strewn across the country. But this new space was dreamed out of something different and purposeful. I hope to fill this space with a focus on healthy eating, moving, and living and whenever possible done so organically.

Who am I?

An interesting question considering where God has taken, and is taking my life. I'm a Christ-follower, first and foremost. I hope others see me identified that way. I aim to live my daily life walking with Him, and I fail regularly. But God is good and he is glorified when I choose Him.

As of at June 2011, I'm a former teacher. Or maybe I'm a teacher taking a break from teaching. I hope its the latter. I taught 6th grade for 5 years, spent major mulah to go to school to get an English degree and certificate to teach, cried more times than I care to remember over my students, and ultimately had to walk away due to administrative/leadership issues. So for now, it's safe to say I'm changing careers into the corporate world. God is good and He's takin' care of me.

I'm a wife. Married July 30th, 2010 to the love of my life! Time flies! But seriously, being married is probably my favorite part of life so far. My getting engaged story was a pretty fabulous one in of itself, and how I knew I'd marry my husband is even cooler because I knew he was the one on our first date. Such a cool story. Promise.

I'm a Seattleite. It actually feels weird to type that because I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and left right before my 21st birthday in 2003 and fell in love with the city.  I've spent most of my adult life here in Seattle, found some of my deepest passions here, met my dear husband here, and eaten more fresh fish than most mid-westerners get in a lifetime.

A newer identity for me is I'm an athlete who doesn't really play sports. I do fitness. I fell in love with working out and transforming my body about 4 months before our wedding when my coworker asked if she could be my personal trainer as a wedding gift to me. Seriously, how do you say no to that! It turns out she is an amazing personal trainer who loves science and is now back into the fitness world as her profession. She writes for Unlock Magazine and she used me and my story as part of her articles. You can see the full lineup of workouts that reshaped my body and transformed my passions HERE. And finally, if you're into fun little tips to help jump start your fitness goals, check out her weekly tips.

Lately, I've dabbled in running. I ran the Warrior Dash in July 2011 and later ran the Black Diamond Half Marathon in September 2011. Recently I ran in the Run for Your Lives 2012 zombie apocalypse and loved it. I also enjoying weight lifting, interval training, P90x and anything by Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper.

To wrap up, I guess you could say I'm a blogger..., mmm...maybe that's a stretch. I'm an English major, with a desire to write and be heard. I'm not sure I'm all that talented, and so I hope you will help me by encouraging me with your comments. I want this blog to be an place to discuss fitness, food, and life--nothing original, but it's my life, which is original. I don't have any fancy equipment; just my iPhone camera, occasionally my husbands Canon D-SLR and my Macbook Pro. I make no promises to be outstanding, but I hope you'll find something valuable and interesting.

Introduce yourself! I'd love to get to know you.
